Here is a summary of the story: "Beauty and the Beast" tells the story of a young girl named Belle, who finds herself in a difficult situation when her father, a merchant, is forced to go to the castle of a terrifying beast to pay a debt. Reluctantly, the father agrees to sacrifice his own life to save his daughter and promises to bring her back a rose. At the castle, the father discovers that the Beast is actually an imposing creature but one endowed with a complex personality. The Beast offers a deal: the father can return home safe and sound on the condition that Belle takes his place. Belle agrees to stay at the castle to save her father. Over time, Belle discovers the kindness and sensitivity hidden behind the Beast's frightening appearance. A special relationship develops between them, and Belle eventually develops feelings for the Beast. However, the Beast allows her to visit her family, giving her a magic mirror to bring her back. When she returns home, Belle is confronted by the unwanted advances of a vain suitor. Meanwhile, the Beast, devastated by Belle's absence, begins to waste away. Realizing the importance of her feelings for the Beast, Belle returns to the castle and declares her love for him, which breaks the spell that had imprisoned him. The Beast transforms into a prince, and Belle and the prince live happily ever after. "Beauty and the Beast" explores the themes of inner beauty, true love, and the acceptance of differences. This timeless tale highlights the transformation of the characters and the power of love to overcome appearances.

Number of Pages: 84

Dimensions: 0.17 x 9.69 x 7.44 IN

Publication Date: January 15, 2026

Report copyright infringement

by Jean de la Fontaine (Author)

Discover or rediscover the famous Fables through a facsimile of this collection published in 1888, beautifully illustrated by Louis-Maurice Boutet de Monvel (1850-1913). Its prime movers, the Vicomte de Valmont and the Marquise de Merteuil--gifted, wealthy, and bored--form an unholy alliance and turn seduction into a game. And they play this game with such wit and style that it is impossible not to admire them, until they discover mysterious rules that they cannot understand. In the ensuing battle there can be no winners, and the innocent suffer with the guilty. This new translation gives Laclos a modern voice, and readers will be able to judge whether the novel is as "diabolical" and "infamous" as its critics have claimed, or whether it has much to tell us about a world we still inhabit.

About the Series: For over 100 years Oxford World's Classics has made available the broadest spectrum of literature from around the globe. Modern directors transform Don Juan in every new era, as each director finds something new to highlight in this timeless classic. Within a month of its publication the French authorities brought an action against the author and the book's publisher claiming that the work was an insult to public decency. Eventually the French courts would acknowledge the literary merit of Baudelaire's work but ordered that six poems in particular should be banned from subsequent publication. The notoriety caused by this scandal would ultimately work in the author's favor causing the initial publication to sell out, thus prompting the publication of another edition. The second edition was published in 1861, it included an additional thirty-five poems, with the exclusion of the six poems censored by the French government. Finally in 1868 a third edition was published posthumously. This collection added an additional fourteen poems selected by two of Baudelaire's friends yet again excluded the six censored poems. Literary scholars generally agree that, while well-meaning, the addition of these poems in the third edition disrupt the structure intended by Baudelaire and thus the 1861 edition should be considered as the definitive edition. In this volume we reproduce that 1861 edition along with the six censored poems in the original French and in an English translation by William Aggeler. Rich with symbolism, "The Flowers of Evil" is rightly considered a classic of the modernist literary movement. Its themes of decadence and eroticism seek to exhibit Baudelaire's criticism of the Parisian society of his time.

Number of Pages: 222

Dimensions: 0.51 x 9 x 6 IN

Illustrated: Yes

Publication Date: January 01, 2015

Report copyright infringement

by Atlantic Editions (Editor), Charles Baudelaire (Author)

Complete edition in paperback format

This work in 7 parts (Spleen and Ideal, Parisian Scenes, Wine, Flowers of Evil, Rebellion, Death, The Wreckage) includes the poems censored during the author's lifetime.

Immerse yourself in the reading of one of the greatest masterpieces of French poetry.

Charles Baudelaire (1821-1867) is the first modern French poet.
